Hi
I have some windows icons that I wish to use on my A1200 tower using OS 3.9. I have windows icon datatype but can only view them via multiview. Secondly how do you change the icons for removable media ie. floppies, CD ROM, Zips etc. And finally I want to unzip some files but can't. I am able to un-lha, lzx but not zip. I have unzip in the c: directory but to no avail.
Thanx
Rob :-?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think icon.library is datatype aware. So the Windows icon datatype will work for Multiview, but won't let you actually use the icon *as* an icon. You would have to convert the file to an IFF and then use something like Iconian to make it in to a .info.
I think the default disk icons are in env-archive. Have a look in there and see if you can find the icons as they are at the moment, then replace the files with the icons you want.
Finally, you shouldn't need c:unzip to use zip files with unarc on 3.9. On my 3.9 install I can zip files with no problems in unarc. Can you open the files on your windows machine?

Would I be able to use the icons if I converted them into jpegs?

Jpg is not the way to go. Jpg will degrade the quality.
Get Irfanview for you pc it supports both .ico and .iff/ilbm.
www.irfanview.com
Open the .ico file in irfanview and save them out as iff/ilbm. Then transfer them to your amiga and use whatever icon program on the amiga that lets you import iff/ilbm files. From there you have to save them out as the right kind of .info file(tool/drawer/etc.)
Icons on the amiga is more than just a bitmap picture, it also holds some information.
(Irfanview will also do batch convert)

Downloaded irfanview and tried to save it as iff/ilbm but there was no option to save as.

Have you tried Powericons so you can use .png icons?
Look at my screenshot in the gallery

Hmm... I was pretty sure Irfanview could both read and save as iff. Seems I was wrong.

Xnview can save as .iff, it even says Amiga Iff
Xnview is a free program.
Anyway, I highly recommend using Powericons if you really want good looking icons

I've downloaded the powericons, will have a look at them later, but I have downloaded some Rammstein windows icons and want to convert them to go with my wallpaper theme.
