I've tried for ten minutes to come with a response that would get past AO's language filters.

I've seen other things about Baptists of late that I haven't put up on here because quite frankly I don't need to add "Christian basher" to the list of things I've been accused of, but the gyst of it is that Baptists have not only accepted this as divine will, lavishing much glee at the death of so many, no, thats not enough, some are actively going out there not to give aid, but to try to convert hindu's with the promise of aid if they do so...

These people give true Christians a very very bad name.

@Leander:

Sorry mate, I should have been clearer.
It's a spoof site. (At least I hope it is.)

Yes, it's a spoof site. Check out their political one,

http://www.whitehouse.org

However being a spoof site doesn't mean it's wrong about the Baptists - it just happens to be exaggerating a bit. We hope. :-P

The trouble with spoofs like this, is that they are very very close to the truth.

Which is also why I find them so funny. ;-)

This is the article that I was talking about earlier, as I said, for me that spoof site is a tad too close to the truth for my tastes

The article (http://www.news-leader.com/today/0110-Religiousg-271115.html).

Judge for yourself.

review of God's Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong and the Left Doesn't Get It. (http://www.slate.com/id/2111701/)
Jim Wallis was just on "The Daily Show" and I figured I'd put this info in here just to show that not every religious person in the US is a kook.

If only politicians were as reasonable.

The book, which carries on Amazon.com a review by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, suggests that the Right in America has hijacked the language of faith to prop up its political agenda. The Left, Wallis suggests, hasn't done much better, largely ignoring faith and continually separating moral discourse and personal ethics from public policy. While the Right argues that God's way is their way, the Left pursues an unrealistic separation of religious values from morally grounded political leadership. The consequence is a false choice between ideological religion and soulless politics.

Hi cecilia:

Oh, I know that.
We have BJ on this site who is very open minded and good to have a discussion with.

When I lampoon fanatics, it isn't aimed at everyone of faith.

From Cecilia's quote:

The consequence is a false choice between ideological religion and soulless politics. But when the leftwing becomes soulfull, they'll be accused of communism, and being "unrealistic". Such happens especially in the US.
(coincidentially, I vote for such a party :-D)

It's just that as the residant catholic-basher (as some may think of me), I was pointing out that even I know there are religious people who are capable of rational thought and real christian behavior.
Like, my mother and this guy that wrote that book.

In fact, one of the main reasons i'm offended by bone-heads like Bush and asscroft is because they are hypocrites who say one thing and act nothing like a real christian. And I grew up with someone who embodies the real love of fellow man, the real accepting people as they are, not trying to change people, thinking of others first attitude that bush, et al do NOT have.

My mother is a wonderful person, certainly nicer than me. but, as I have NEVER claimed to be a christian, I'm no hypocrite. I can be as bit-chy as I like.
:-D

anyway, to continue in the satire vein, my favorite online site, the Onion (http://www.theonion.com/wdyt/index.php?issue=4103) has a commetary on those stickers:

Last week, a U.S. district judge ordered a Georgia school district to remove stickers reading, "Evolution is a theory, not a fact" from its textbooks. What do you think?

"The thing is, they're right. Evolution is nothing more than a well-supported, predictive, scientifically rigorous theory."

Those {bleep}s!

---24. Ronald Reagan

Crimes: The greatest monster in recent American history. Reagan’s excruciating sanctification during his agonizingly protracted funeral was enough to make anyone with knowledge of his true legacy blow up a radio tower. Newspaper columnists performed astonishing feats of selective memory in canonizing Reagan, disregarding any inconvenient evidence of supporting terrorism, ripping off taxpayers for outrageous defense programs, or introducing crack cocaine to America, because we need our heroes.

Smoking Gun: Responsible for telemarketing and infomercials.

Punishment: Reanimated and killed again.

3. You

Crimes: You gaze idly at the carnage around you, sigh, and go calmly back to your coffee and your People magazine. You can’t stop buying useless crap, though you’re drowning in a deepening pool of debt. You think you’re an activist because you {bleep} all day on the internet, but you reelect the same gangsters at a 99% rate. You consider yourself informed because you waste a significant portion of your life watching the same three news stories cycle over and over again on your gargantuan, aerodynamic television set while you eat processed food. You really thought everything would be okay if Kerry won. Not only do you believe in an invisible man who magically farted out the universe, you also excoriate and marginalize those who disagree. You have a poorer understanding of your country’s foreign policy history than a third world peasant, but you can’t wait to see what Julia Roberts will be wearing at the Oscars. You cheer as Ukrainians challenge an election based on exit poll data, but keep waiting around for someone else to fix your problems. You can’t think, you can’t organize and you won’t act. This is all your fault.

Smoking Gun: You’re fat.

Punishment: You’re soaking in it.
