Well, I just bought 2 amigas on ebay (a 600HD and a 1200/68030@28/with IDE connectors for "normal" pc drives) The problem is, that there are no WB or any other disks except for some games... how can I install WB on the hd's of those 2 amigas? If I connect a cdrom to the a1200 and have the OS3.9 cd, it will boot and install???? (just like windows or linux?)
here are the auctions of what I bought (I am the same buyer, never mind the different usernames)

When my Workbench disk became broke, and I needed to install a harddrive for my A2000. I put my HD in a pc and used WinUAE. I was able to format the drive and restore my workbench. Then I put it back in the Amiga, and formated new disk, and made a backup of workbench on the disk.

So if I do the wb install with winUAE it can be used 100% on a real amiga? and what about the os3.9 cdrom?

You should be very carefull about putting HDD in PC. I've heard that Windows overwrites RGDB.
Maybe the simplest solution to problems of getting OS disks would be having two FDDs in a PC. There is a program that can read Amiga floppys in such config, so there should be a way for writing them, right?

This method will only work if the HD has previously been partitioned on an amiga. WinUAE will not recognize just a blank or windows partitioned HD.
You're going to need to get some workbench disks.

He could partiton and format the disk using AROS on his PC :-)

I could not get my CD-ROM to boot. In theory from what other members here have said it may be possible. According to the 3.9 docs you need to have a OS installed and then you can use the CD to make a boot disk.
I have no experience with AROS but this could work. If your drive is already partitioned on the amiga just plug it in to the PC (sounds like you'll need a 2.5 > 3.5 adapter) and mount it in WinUAE, and then install workbench and a CD-Rom driver. After that put the drive back in the Amiga and install 3.9 from there.
If your drive is not partitioned, start bidding on some 3.1 disks.

The RDB is only in danger if you're running win9x (and why would you, 95/98/me suck hard ;-)

Hi !
The easiest way is to buy for your A1200, original WB 3.1 + rom kick 3.1 at Vesalia (www.vesalia.de)
Then prepare (hdd install disk) HDDToolBox [good luck !], then Format (with the menu on top), then install WB, and then add "PC0: " for storage/DOS to DEVS/DOS this will allow you to transfert data on PC Formated 720 kb disk.
Then found a IDE driver such as IDEFIX or ASIMCDFs on AMInet.
Easy !!
Two threads about this at amigaworld.net

Apparently you CAN format directly in WinUAE.
