hey all I got my new scsi drive and installed all the software but it still does not detect any devices, whereas before it halted because the chain was broken (no terminator) now it just ploughs through as if there's nothing there (but there is)

Anyone got any suggestions?

Cool,
you got the SquirrelSCSI.device?
You need to edit the tooltypes of CD0 <click on icon and search the menu!>

The device is case sensitive so carefull of what you type...
next
you need to set the unit number...try 2 first...(trial and error?)
Drop the CD0 icon into the WBstartup drawer...
reboot and hopefully its there...

YOU are using AmiCDFS (AmiCDFileSystem)?
Check here (http://cd.textfiles.com/updgold-02/l/)

I'm not sure what I'm using to be honest, I just assumed the squirrel drivers disk would do everything to get it working....?

Hum,
i can`t remember if they do or not...<i suspect they dont>

How far have you got?

The device driver is in DEVS;
And you have installed amicdfs?

Can you see a CDO icon in a drawer in DEVS: ?

No I havent installed amicdfs, all I have done is installed the scsimount etc and whatever else the squirrel drivers disk does...

Hum,
Well try that, it may have done it for you...

...ANYONE remember if it does?

If no joy then download amicdfs (http://cd.textfiles.com/updgold-02/l/)
Then
Copy L/AmiCDFileSystem in drawer L:
<hum see if you have WBstart.handler there >

Drag icon called "CD0" to the DEVS:DOSDrivers drawer.
Modify the following Types of Tools <of CDO> according to your system configuration :

DEVICE Name of the manager of devices used for the CD-ROM unit. eg squirrelSCSI.device <remember case sensitive>

UNIT Nº of unit of the device....it`s 0,1, 2,3 4,5 or 6 <try 2 or 0?><rightmouse click on boot to get unit number?>

I'm trying to mount the device using scsi mounter though and it just comes up a blank when it searches the scsi bus.

I do have the sqirrelscsi.device on the system but it won't detect my cd drive.

The devicename is supposed to be ´squirrelscsi.device´ and it should be in your L directory ...

Hum,
Forget about scsi mounter it`s just a red herring.

EDIT the tooltype of the icon CDO
Download (http://home.freeuk.net/markk/Amiga_MO_FAQ/finding.html) software to probe the scsi UNIT number...

Comtemplate what i posted ...

Use the force.

<no , not the forks!> :-)

Okay I'm in Workbench:Devs now and in the dosdrivers drawer there is a CD0 Icon... does this mean I have the correct files installed?

Hrrrm

Make sure you have L/AmiCDFS in there and you edit the file that the
CD0: icon represents so that it's settings are dedicated to your
CD-ROM.

However you should check first if the drive is appearing on the SCSI
chain first, I would reccomend Phase5 UnitControl v2.17 or whatever
else is out there and put in your squirrelscsi.device.

It must show on the chain before the CD0: mountfile will work, it's
possible you have 2x devices with the same SCSI ID so check on the
back of your drives and see the ID wheel/jumpers are different for
each seperate drive.

This is quite strange, keep posting!

Hum,
good, one bit of software`s there...
next step.

Modify <EDIT using the menu option> the following Types of Tools <of CDO> according to your system configuration :

DEVICE Name of the manager of devices used for the CD-ROM unit. eg squirrelSCSI.device <remember case sensitive>

UNIT Nº of unit of the device....it`s 0,1, 2,3 4,5 or 6 <try 2 or 0?><rightmouse click on boot to get unit number?>

OK, you must have configure it by now so it looks something like this:

/* $VER: CD0 40.6 (31.8.93)
*
* CD-ROM file system entry
*
* This file enables the CD-ROM file system which allows you to read standard
* ISO-9660 CD-ROM disks from an Amiga with a SCSI or IDE controller.
*
* The "Unit" line defines the SCSI address of the CD-ROM drive. Drives
* often come configured as unit 2, which is the default. Check the
* documentation for your CD-ROM drive to find the exact SCSI address.
* Note that most drives let you change this number using jumpers.
*/

hum,
if you haven`t downloaded amicdfs (http://home.iprimus.com.au/vortexau/software/amicdfs214.lha) yet ...
1) do it now.
2) install.
you should now have amicdfs in a drawer called L:
< if you can`t see it, try `show all files` from the menu >

Can you see [i]wbstart-handler{/i] in there too?
